seekingsushinemoments:

If you want to cover an open wound with makeup then I’ve found that dabbing a small amount of talcum powder on it creates a kind of artificial scab which can be easily covered with concealer and/or foundation :)

Damage Control Skin Care Routine

tactic4lbeauty:

So you’ve spent the last two hours picking and now you have no idea how to move away from this complex feeling of self hate and all the sores on your body. Well, I’m here to help (I’m not a dermatologist but I AM a seasoned dermatillomaniac and this is Not My First Rodeo™, this is my tried and true technique for oily-combination skin)

1) distance yourself from a mirror and give your hands something to do. Maybe write about the picking experience, all your emotion and fear and hate. Play with a tangle toy, whatever you need to do to unwind and get the urge to settle down while distracting yourself. This is important. If you go straight from picking to cleaning up your face, you will just start picking again. Give yourself and your skin some time to cool down.

2) wash your face. Use a gentle and moisturizing cleanser, don’t use anything with alcohol or severe chemicals. Again, this works on my skin, so if you need any severe chemicals for your face, you do you. I totally get it. But try not to dry out your face bc moisture is key to healing

3) disinfect. Do a raw honey mask (raw honey is also good for fading scars) or use tea tree oil. Make sure you do not skip this. You absolutely must disinfect, whether it’s with neosporin or with a natural way, you need to make sure these wounds don’t get infected. My favorite way is to just drown my face in raw honey, but again, you do you. A product I like for healing is the Grahams natural alternatives sooth-it gel, which contains aloe Vera, Manuka honey, witch hazel, and many other good things. I love this product.

4) moisturize. Use a face moisturizer and just lather it on. Something not too thick. I really like the garnier skinactive clearly brighter dark spot corrector moisturizer and the garnier skinactive clearly brighter overnight leave on peel, as they help heal and fade scars. (These two products are my saviors. The end all be all. They faded my scars so quickly, after years of trying I finally got some payoff. I love these products.)

4) bandaids bandaids bandaids. Smack some honey or neosporin or whatever you like on that bandaid and then smack that bad boy on your wound. I find that raw honey really speeds up the healing process, and bandaids keep me from obsessing over the way the redness on my face looks.

Some other tips and tricks-
•don’t use most face masks. Many of them with be rough on the skin and are not supposed to be used on open wounds. Read the bottle before putting it on your face, or just use raw honey. I am a huge fan of raw honey.
•aloe Vera helps calm down redness. Aloe Vera is your friend. It is also very moisturizing. Aloe Vera is your friend.
• I have heard frankincense is good on wounds but I have never tried it

Good luck babe

Hang in There

tactic4lbeauty:

My face has been breaking out and my dermatillomania is really flaring up so I’ve been forced to remind myself of some key things

1) your derma will often try to trick you into thinking that even though the past has proved to you that picking sucks and does nothing but make you feel worse, this one time will actually make you feel better. Remember that anything is better than picking (obviously there are limits, other faulty coping mechanisms are not) but repeating the phrase “anything is better than picking” helps me do anything but pick. Even if you’ve been picking and you think about stopping. Just because you’ve already been picking doesn’t mean that stopping means nothing. Stopping is better than picking. Anything is better than picking

2) I also repeat “just this one day” to myself. I think, “Just for today, don’t pick. Just hang in there for this one day.” By exaggerating the importance of this one day, I manage to get through it. And then I think the same to myself the next day, and the next.

3) stop and think about why you want to pick. By opening this dialogue with yourself, you often find the root of the problem and work through those feelings. For me, this thought process looks like I want to pick, I want to pick because I’m feeling something uncomfortable, I’m feeling anxious and scared, I’m feeling scared because of [event], I can journal, sing, or meditate to feel this feeling. There are other way to solve the uncomfortable feelings besides picking.

4) Learn how to be uncomfortable. This is a big one for me. I had to learn how to look at myself and be uncomfortable with what I saw and still leave it alone.
I also had to learn how to sit with my feelings and wait patiently for the uncomfortable ones to dissipate while I took care of my feelings with an activity.

5) How to take care of feelings without picking !(summary) identify the feeling! Identify why you’re feeling the feeling! If there’s an action to take to relieve the feeling, do it (within reason)! If there isn’t, confide in someone wise! If you don’t have someone wise, journal! Then do activities that calm you down. For me, that’s cooking, going for a swim or walk, singing, listening to music, writing, reading, etc. find what works for you.

derma tips for healing cuts/sores

bfrbeautiful:

• put band aids over the spots you pick the most, and apply coconut oil, ointment, or acne cream over the sores on your face before covering them.

• when you pop a pimple, wrap an ice cube in a cotton ball soaked in rose water, salicyclic acid, or some kind of liquid lotion or face serum. don’t press too hard.

• for me, a spot of tea tree oil and a little bit of aloe or honey helps with minor cuts, and for deeper sores, neosporin or salicylic acid.

• drink as much water as you can! try it with mint or a splash of juice, or drink tea.

• try a lighter moisturizer to reduce breakouts and prevent clogged/infected cuts.

• try face masks with caffeine or ginseng to reduce swelling, but only use the face masks that already come in a stretchy masks so you won’t have to wash or pick anything off.
